A thief tried to steal the crown. He got caught by the King's guards and was taken to the king. The King was feeling kind that day and asked the thief how he wanted to die. A few minutes later the king let the thief go punished but alive.
How did the thief want to die?
The thief clearly didn't want to die. But the riddle is worded awkwardly. The king doesn't just ask the thief, the king declares that he will allow the thief to choose how he will die. The thief most likely answered "of old age." Of course, the king could have just thrown the thief in prison for the rest of his life but apparently this king is kind of stupid.
