One day, all the courtiers from Akbar's court were gathered in the assembly hall when one of them told the Emperor that all his valuables had been stolen by a thief the previous night.
This shocked the Emperor to his core as the place where that courter stayed was the most secured in the kingdom. The Emperor thought that it is not at all possible for an outsider to enter into the courtier's house and steal the valuables. Only another courtier could commit this crime. He quickly called Birbal to identify the thief.
Birbal thought for a while and successfully solved the mystery by identifying the thief in just one statement.

Birbal said, Jahanpanah, the thief has a straw in his beard?
Listening to this, the Emperor huffed, A straw in his beard?
While all the courtiers stood still, Alim Khan quickly ran his hand up and down his discoloured beard to pull out the straw (that never existed) before anybody else could see it.
Birbal saw him doing this and pointed out at him declaring him the thief thereby solving the mystery.

Birbal proved his wittiness once again and was rewarded with gold coins.

One day, Birbal got late for a function and Akbar was highly disappointed.
Please forgive me Jahanpanah. I arrived late because my child was crying and I had to calm him down, explained Birbal.
Does it take this long to placate a child? questioned the emperor. I feel that you have no idea about how to raise a child. I order you to act like a child and I will act like your father to show you how you should have dealt with your child. Come on! Ask me all that he asked from you.
Father, I want a cow, said Birbal.
The emperor quickly ordered one of the servants to bring a cow to the kingdom.
I want to drink its milk, now, now, now! said Birbal, imitating the voice of his child.
Akbar asked his servants to milk the cow and give to Birbal.
The servants quickly milked the cow and offered the milk to Birbal. He sipped in a little and then gave the bowl to the emperor.
As Birbal put up the next demand that was put up by his child a few hours ago, the emperor was stunned and left the room.

Emperor Akbar once ruled over India. He was a wise and intelligent ruler, and he had in his court the Nine Gems, his nine advisors, who were each known for a particular skill. One of these Gems was Birbal, known for his wit and wisdom. The story below is one of the examples of his wit. Do you have it in you to find out the answer?

Emperor Akbar was very fond of Birbal as were many of the village people. However, this made quite a few of Akbar's other ministers jealous.

One day, they decided to come up with a plan to rid them of the "great" Birbal. To avoid suspicion from falling on them, they took the help of the emperor's barber in this plan.

A week later, while Akbar was receiving a haircut, the barber lightly mentioned that he knew of someone who could allow Akbar to reach and even converse with his ancestors who had passed away, but he also stated the man who would go to the heavens would have to be witty, intelligent and wise. Akbar instantly recommended Birbal for the task.

Birbal was told that a fire would be lit around him and the smoke would carry him to heaven; however, chanting would protect him from burning to his death. Birbal instantly knew that this was a plan to get rid of him, but not wishing to anger the emperor, he agreed to perform this task in a month. During this period of time, he asked some laborers to build a tunnel connecting his house to the cemetery, where the "rites" would be held.

When the day came, Birbal escaped his death by going to his house where he stayed for a month growing out his beard. A month later, he went back to Akbar's palace. When asked about the health of Akbar's ancestors, Birbal replied that they were doing very well but were missing just one thing.

What did Birbal say they were missing in heaven?

One fine afternoon, a very rich man invited Birbal to lunch at his house.
Birbal, never wanting to disappoint anyone, went to that man's house and he was greeted warmly in a hall filled with people.
"€œI had no idea that there will be so many other guest present here."€ commented Birbal since he hated large gatherings.
"Dear Birbal, they are not guests. All, except one of them are work here for me." told the wealthy man with a cunning look.
The rich man then asked, "€œCan you tell which of them the guest is?"
"€œPerhaps I could,"€ responded Birbal. "€œGo on...talk to them and I would observe them as you talk, maybe tell them a joke."€ added Birbal.
The rich man recited a joke that was the worst that Birbal had ever heard. As he finished, everyone in the hall laughed hilariously.
"€œNow tell me which of them my other invitee is?"€ said the rich man as he finished telling his bad joke.
And Birbal pointed his finger at a man.
The stunned man asked, "€œHow did you identify him?"
