Picture an empty, clear wine bottle with a cork secured at the top in the usual way. Inside the bottle a metal ring hangs suspended by a string.
How is it possible to make the metal ring drop to the bottom of the bottle without touching the ring, the thread, the cork or the bottle?

A pair of compasses draws a circle. How, without changing the radius, can you make it draw an oval? You have to fix a radius, then make one rotation from a fixed point to draw an oval where the curvature changes continuously all the way around the perimeter and the pencil produces a doubly symmetrical figure where one axis is more than the unaltered radius. How can it be done?

Tom wants to send Sally an expensive ring through the mail because they live thousands of kms apart. The only problem is that everything sent through the mail is stolen unless there is a lock put on it. Both Tom and Sally have plenty of locks and keys but they don't have any of the same locks or keys.

How can Tom send Sally the ring without it getting stolen?
