You have a lighter and two fuses that take exactly one hour to burn, but they don't burn at a steady rate. For example, one fuse could take 59 minutes to burn the first inch and then burn the rest of the fuse in the last minute.
How would you use these two fuses to measure 45 minutes?

You light both sides of fuse A and one side of fuse B.
When the flames of the two sides of fuse A meet (wherever on the fuse that may be) 30 minutes has passed.
At that moment fuse B still has 30 minutes of burning left.
You light the other side of fuse B.
When the flames of both sides meet another 15 minutes have passed, for a total of 45 minutes.
