You are working out some estimates for your boss. You can come up with a very good package for your nice little widgets, but the packaging may be too expensive. The cost of the widget and the packaging is \$1.10, and the widget is \$1.00 more than the package.

package = \$0.05, widget = \$1.05

Widget is \$ 1,- more than the packaging.
If packaging costs x \$, then the widget costs 1+x \$.
The total cost is then x + (1+x) = 1+2*x \$.
The total cost is 1,10 \$. x is then 0.05 \$.

Total Cost \$1.10 100%
Widget \$1.00 91%
Packaging \$0.10 9%

If the packaging were .03 for example then you add \$1.00 total cost would be \$1.03. So the only thing it can be is \$.10 so that you arrive at \$1.10 for total cost.
