let the speed of train be v1 and bus v2 m/min, we have two equations
250000/v1 +120000/v2=240
130000/v1 +240000/v2=258
let 1/v1=b1 and 1/v2=b2 the above equations become
250000b1 +120000b2=240
130000b1 +240000b2.2=258
solution gives b1=0.0006 and b2=0.00075 invert v1=1666.666 and v2=1333.333 m/min convert to km/hr gives 100 and 80 kmph

If he had travelled all the way by train, he would have saved 1/4 of the time he would have taken to travel by car only and would have arrived at his destination 1 hour 30 minutes early.
